Una semana completa de Actores, Directores, y Cine que atrajo, entre Juárez, El Paso y ciudades aledañas alrededor de 3,900 personas. Este año se empezó en Ciudad Juárez, con la presencia de la gran dama del Cine Mexicano Doña Marga Lopez, que recibió el "Premio de Trayectoría Artística", y se acabó, con broche de oro en El Paso, Texas con otra gran dama, pero esta del Cine Americano Ms. Jane Fonda, recibiendo el mismo premio del lado Americano. La película ganadora del lado Mexicano fué "Cuento de Hadas para Dormir Cocodrilos" y del lado Americano "A Day Without a Mexican".

Además, los premios a estudiantes subieron de valor y de participación, algo que nos llena de orgullo y entusiasmo para los años venideros. Mejor libreto de cortometraje (Español) Alejandro Becerril Elías, por su libreto "Los Contreras Family", y el mejor libreto de cortometraje (Inglés) Victor Salas; por su libreto "The Introvert". Los premios: Inglés - $800.00 Dollares, Español - $8,000.00 Pesos. En la categoría de Documentales tuvímos "La Luz" y "El Relato de las Mujeres Vivas de Ciudad Juárez". Los premios: Inglés; $500.00 Dollares, y Español; $5000.00 Pesos. Todos los segundos lugares, y todos estudiantes, recibieron el software Final Draft.

Cinco películas de México, una de España, y Cuatro de Estados Unidos fueron las concursantes este año en este festival, que es una celebracion del cine independiente en América, y que sirve como marco para estrechar los lazos que unen a México con Estados Unidos, a Chihuahua con Texas, y muy especialmente a Ciudad Juárez con El Paso. Fué una oportunidad más para que nos comuniquemos por medio del cine, que es el lenguaje universal, con los seminarios en el Museo del INBA y en el Teatro del Chamizal. Se promueve la cultura, por medio del intercambio de películas Americanas y Latino Americanas, se promueve el turismo, atrayendo viajeros a la zona fronteriza por medio de los Actores, Actrices, Directores y Productores, y sobre todo, para que el area fronteriza tenga un matiz diferente: Festivo, Cultural y Positivo.

Doña Marga Lopez, Ms. Jane Fonda, Damián Alcazar, Arcelia Ramírez, James Russo, Rafael Montero, Jeff Scheftel, Iván de Paz, Ken Karn todos en esta nuestra area fronteriza, ayudándonos a promover el cine independiente, a inspirar a los estudiantes, a atraer el turismo, y a plasmar una nota positiva en las noticias de nuestra región fronteriza.

The Fourth Chamizal Independent Film Festival

July 31 - August 7, 2004.

El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Chihuahua

A whole week of Actors, Directors, and movies that attracted 3,900 people from El Paso, Juarez and the surrounding cities. This year it was El Paso’s turn to close with the award ceremonies and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" presentation to American Cinema Legend Ms. Jane Fonda, but the opening wasn’t going to stay behind and it was a pleasure to give the same award to a Tresure of Mexican Cinema Ms. Marga Lopez. The winning movie from the American side was "A Day Without a Mexican", and from the Mexican side was "Cuento de Hadas para Dormir Cocodrilos".

Additionally, the student prizes went up in value, something that makes us feel, both excited and proud for the years to come. The best Short Screenplay (English) was for Victor Salas; for his screenplay "The Introvert", and the best Short Screenplay (Spanish) was for Alejandro Becerril Elias; for his screenplay "Los Contreras Family". The prizes: English - $800.00 Dollars, Spanish - $8,000.00 Pesos. For the Documentaries we had "La Luz" and "El Relato de Las Mujeres Vivas de Ciudad Juarez". The prizes: English- $500.00 Dollars, and Spanish - $5,000.00 Pesos. All the second place winners, for both contests, where awarded a Final Draft Software.

Four movies from the United States, one from Spain, and five from Mexico were the contestants for this year’s festival. A celebration of the independent cinema in America, that helps us to strengthen the ties in between the United States and Mexico, Texas and Chihuahua, and especially El Paso with Ciudad Juarez. It was one more chance to communicate through cinema, the universal language, with the seminars at the Chamizal and the INBA Museum. To be able to promote culture through this cinema exchange of Latin and American independent films, and tourism by bringing the actors, producers, and directors who are a magnet for film lovers, and above all, to give our border area a festive, cultural, and joyous feel.

Ms. Jane Fonda, Doña Marga Lopez, Damián Alcazar, Arcelia Ramírez, James Russo, Rafael Montero, Jeff Scheftel, Iván de Paz, Ken Karn they were all here on our border region this year. And their purpose was the same as ours: to promote independent cinema, to inspire students, to bring tourism, and to send the whole world a positive message from our border towns, on both sides of the river.
